5 Lessons from a Small Business

Be Flexible

When starting a business, you have an idea of how things ought to go.  There is a vision.
Although keeping that end goal in sight is crucial, know that the road to getting there may be long and winding.  You may feel that you need to hold on tight to the reigns of your quest, but if you’re able to loosen them, even a little, you’ll find that you’ll be able to navigate with more ease.   Sometimes we need to let go of control, so that we can allow the path to unfold.

Embrace Uncertainty

You may think you have it all figured out.  You have an idea for a business and the steps to take to make it successful.  However, you’ll quickly discover that when starting a business, especially in the hemp industry, things are always changing and evolving.  You may find yourself consumed with the unknowingness of the future.  Take a deep breath, and allow the change to wash over you.  Don’t get caught up in it, for there is surely another wave coming.  Nothing is certain and nothing is permanent.  So, enjoy where you’re at, acknowledge the infinite possibilities, and honor how far you have come.

Be Authentic

Be true to yourself.  Don’t worry about how others view you, or how you think others perceive you. You do You.  There is no point in trying to be anybody else.  Let your true self shine through your business, and in everything you do. Show the world your true colors and you’ll find that the more you practice this, the easier it becomes.  People respond to raw & real, it’s more relatable.  In honoring your truth, you’ll inevitably encourage others to do the same.

Welcome Support & Give Recognition

It takes a village.
You may feel like you can do everything on your own, and maybe that’s true.  But it will be a hell of a lot easier if you ask & receive help.  You know, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”  It’s true.
Be sure to give recognition to those that support you along the way.  We all appreciate being noticed for our efforts.

Practice Gratitude

The more gratitude you express, the more joy you will experience.
If you are caught in the negative cycle of self pity, it can be hard to pull yourself out.  Take time each day to think of a few things you are grateful for.  Maybe even write them down.  The more time you take to acknowledge what you have to be grateful for, the more gratitude you’ll discover within.  Go ahead, try it.
